Rojin Sharafi Sinthome for live electronics (2026), 30’
A sonic state of entanglement, a composed knot of disparate sounds — that is Rojin Sharafi’s Sinthome. The Iranian musician draws on an idea by psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. He uses the term to describe an (imaginary) knot in the psyche that enables humans to process differences and experience pleasure. Sharafi finds this knot above all where hardness and fragility happen at the same time in music. With light-footed grace, she shapes folkloric elements and abstract noise into a sonic structure that has no wish to be untied. Zara Ali, present at Klangspuren with her large-scale music theater work Codeborn, among other pieces, reveals another side of herself in the darkened club setting: here she opens portals for the audience into new, immaterial worlds. Rounding out this evening of live electronic music is a performance by Corie Rose Soumah. The Canadian composer cultivates a poetic, intimate style in which small observations sit comfortably alongside the great questions of being human.
