Two wind bands, one city: Schwaz plays — and the audience wanders freely through the middle of it. The two wind orchestras of the city of Schwaz, the Knappenmusik and the Stadtmusik, join forces for a large-scale project. More than 85 musicians perform in the magnificent spaces of the Parish Church of the Assumption and Schwaz City Park.
The program opens with Peter Jakober’s little beauty. Here, countless individual tempos overlap to form a polyphonic tapestry of sound. Those strolling among the musicians hear differently: personal listening experiences emerge that shift with every step and every new vantage point.
From the open space, the path leads into the parish church, where Thomas Meadowcroft’s March Static takes over the room. Under the direction of the Australian ensemble Speak Percussion, slowly moving groups of wind players circle the audience — a constantly shifting soundscape that acoustically redefines the church interior.
